Can you be too serious about God?

What a weird question right?

"Can you be too serious about God?"

The reason I asked this is because sometimes it feels like people tell me that I need to calm down or I'm taking things too seriously. I don't like to curse at all, I don't believe having tattoos is beneficial to God at all even if you have a tattoo of a cross or a a Bible verse or someone or something you cherish (which we can talk about this subject later if you want to now my full opinion on this).

I don't really celebrate most holidays if any at all... I take my Bible reading pretty seriously where as if I'm not understanding something, i will stop and pray or talk to someone or to God about parts in the Bible because i don't want to read trough it like a book and nothing more,

I try to pray more often lately because it fills my spirit up and give me spiritual strength in God to keep walking and fighting for His kingdom,

I hate perverted jokes even though in the past i used to say some myself but that's all changed,

and the list can go on and on and on...

My point being... can you really be too "Serious" about these things?

To be honest, I'm not sure myself. sometimes i feel like i'm going overboard but other times I do the things i do because I want to know God's character and everything that does not please Him, i don't want it. I want no part in it.

I might be too serious sometimes to others and seem a little crazy for the things i believe but in truth God said in:

Hosea 14:4-7

"4 The Lord says, "I will bring my people back to me. I will love them with all my heart; no longer am I angry with them. 7 Once again they will live under my protection. They will grow crops of grain and be fruitful like a vineyard. They will be as famous as the wine of Lebanon."5 I will be to the people of Israel like rain in a dry land. They will blossom like flowers; they will be firmly rooted like the trees of Lebanon. 6 They will be alive with new growth, and beautiful like olive trees. They will be fragrant like the cedars of Lebanon.

Now this passage from the scriptures is from the old testament but the old testament describes what the future will be all the time. I believe this passage not only talks about the Israelite's but also God people after Christ's birth and resurrection.

God going to and already is taking His people out of the world. Out of all the evil in this world so we can be separated from the world. We as His people need to constantly strive to be Holy like our Father in heaven is Holy.

1 Peter 1:16

"16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

What does it mean to be "Holy"

Holy:  exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness

And the Hebrew word for "Holy" means qodesh”  which stands for apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness”In the new testament the word for "Holy" is “hagios” Which means "set apart, reverend, sacred, and worthy of veneration.” So if God is "Holy" and that means mainly "To be set apart" and the Bible tells us to "Be Holy" because God is Holy, then that also means we need to be "set apart".

God will separate His people from this world and the world will not like us because we are not of the world but if we were of the world then the world would have loved us because the world loves its own.

So yeah we can be serious about God and i think we should be serious about God because He was serious about us first. He was so serious that He died for us. Our God Jesus died for us.

now this doesn't mean you can't have fun and make jokes with friends and you have to be super strict about everything you do or say and so on. You can have fun and you can laugh and hang out with friends even if they are not followers of Christ. In fact, we who are light SHOULD be friends with those in the dark so they may see our light that was given to us from our God in heaven.

But just make sure that everything you, you do it for the glory of His kingdom. We also have freedom in Christ so being a follower of Christ doesn't mean you are chained down to rules and religion. you actually are not bound to rules and should never bound yourself to religion because religion does no good for anyone. It just gives you the things you have to do to be "a good person" and feeds you false lies.

No one is good and even Jesus said this:

"Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "Only God is truly good." Luke 18:20

You might not be good but that's what Jesus came down for. He took your shame and guilt and sin upon himself and died for your sins so you wouldn't have to. If you have not been baptized yet, and have repented of your sins, then you should be baptized because baptism is what gives us that freedom in Christ and washes our sins away. (again this is a topic for another time)

Please don't worry about being too serious about God... no matter what you do, i don't believe anyone can be more serious about God than how serious God was and still is about you.

God bless you all and peace be with you!
Thank you for reading and I pray that this might help you in your walk with Christ.
